NZ Real Estate Scholarship opens the door to more jobs
Last week marked the official launch of The New Zealand Real Estate Scholarship Programme across the country.
The programme is part of a national drive to offer job opportunities to those who have skills in business, wish to change career or are looking for a chance to retrain and ‘earn while they learn.’
Supported by New Zealand’s largest real estate company, Harcourts, select offices nationwide have jumped on the chance to upskill and provide employment for professionals who may have had a career in another industry such as teaching, nursing, in a trade, or maybe even the police force.
Harcourts Group Chief Executive, Hayden Duncan says this is an opportunity to provide careers to skilled professionals and to continue to extend the quality of the real estate industry.
“Lately there have been reports in the media about the lack of employment, and skilled professionals unable to gain employment in their…

The group will depart from Brisbane on the 20th of April, travelling to Port Moresby before embarking on the eight day Kokoda trek, and returning on the 29th of April.

Insurance bottleneck foils rebuild after quake
The first multi-level property planned to be built in Christchurch’s central city red zone since the earthquakes is in doubt because of insurance problems.
Rob McCormack, owner of several Harcourts real estate franchises in the city, is ready to build a new headquarters on the site of the “Grenadier Castle”, his five-storey flagship building demolished after the June earthquake.
But his longtime insurer, QBE, and Vero did not want to offer cover for the rebuild and Mr McCormack said the quote from Lloyds was many times the normal cost.
“Everyone is talking about a Christchurch rebuild. I was going to get [Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority head] Roger Sutton to meet me on the site and hammer in the first surveyor’s stake but here’s my dilemma, I don’t have insurance.”
“I’m the first with a building consent, with a pile consent and with a building contract for a multi-level building in…
