Consumer Confidence Grows in Victoria
Despite the current uncertainty within Victoria’s property market, a recent survey conducted by real estate group, Harcourts Victoria has found that both buyers and sellers are optimistic about the future of property prices.
The survey, which was completed externally by over 1,400 respondents who had either bought or sold property through Harcourts over the past 12 months shows that, overall, both buyers and sellers are confident about the future of the property market.
The survey revealed that almost 33 per cent of respondents believe that property prices will increase over the next 12 months, while almost 36 per cent of respondents believe that property prices will remain stable.
The survey results also suggest that first home buyers are back in force with almost 31 per cent of respondents suggesting that they had recently purchased property for the first time.

Property Professionals Call for Tax Reform
With the Federal Treasury expected to collect close to $3.8 billion in stamp duty this year, property professionals are calling for the highly disputed tax to be streamlined across Australia.
Currently, there is a lack of uniformity in stamp duty rates across the country which is a cause of concern for property industry professionals and home buyers alike, suggests Brent Pullar, Chief Executive Officer of real estate group, Harcourts Victoria.
For a $400,000 home, first-home buyers in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania are paying over $12,000 in charges while those in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory pay nothing.
First-home buyers in the $700,000-plus bracket pay as little as $8,130 in the Northern Territory compared with $34,800 for a standard purchase. On the extreme end of the scale, Victorian’s generally pay over $41,500 for a property in this price range.

Clearance Rates Edge Higher in Victoria
The auction clearance rate within Melbourne has started to edge higher, suggests Paul English, Corporate Auctioneer for real estate group, Harcourts Victoria.
“2012’s auction market has kicked off nicely with clearance rates currently sitting at around 66 per cent, up from about 54 per cent from this time last year,” Mr English said.
“There is a lot of action in the market and within Harcourts we’ve had some great auction results, which is really setting the tone for the year ahead,” Mr English added.
Through his experience in Victoria’s property market, Mr English has identified several property hotspots throughout the state.
“The property markets on the Peninsular from Frankston to Mornington are performing incredibly well at the moment. There is a great deal of activity and we’re seeing some really outstanding results in that area.

Harcourts Join Relay for Life
Next month, real estate offices, Harcourts Geelong and Harcourts North Geelong will join forces as “Team Harcourts” to participate in the Cancer Council’s annual Relay for Life charity event.
Team Harcourts will participate in the Geelong Relay for Life event on the 17th of March and hope to raise at least $2,000 for cancer research.
Relay for Life is an incredible overnight event that is an opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to get together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back against the disease.
It is a unique event where teams challenge themselves to take turns to keep a baton moving in a relay-style walk or run overnight.
Relay for Life is now run in every state and territory in Australia and raises over $14 million each year to support the Cancer Council’s research, education and support programs.

Harcourts Opens for Business in Warragul
Real estate office, Harcourts has officially opened its doors in the Victorian town of Warragul and business owners, Evan Broadbent, and Brian and Pauline Soutar are looking forward to offering exceptional service and expertise within their local area.

Success Celebrated at VIP Awards Night
Last week, real estate group, Harcourts Victoria held its Quarterly Awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of its highest performing Sales Consultants, Property Managers and sales offices for the October to December 2011 quarter.
Throughout the event, which was held at the International of Brighton in Melbourne, achievement awards were given to a number of new and existing Sales Consultants and offices from around the state.
20 top Sales Consultants were awarded for their achievements over the quarter. The top five Sales Consultants included John Garnett of Harcourts Boronia who took out first place, followed by Shane Donovan of Harcourts Carrum Downs, Aarryn Cooper of Harcourts Cranbourne, Peter Burley of Harcourts Ballarat and Michael Spring of Harcourts Langwarrin.
